"The ball... flipped forward is loose..."
Even King got it right during the PBP - it was "flipped", NOT fumbled. Unbelievable!!!

The greatest call of all time. Nothing else even comes close. Otherworldly spontaneity, especially "nothing's real in the world anymore." There cannot have been a better announcer than Bill King. Joe Buck destroyed announcing by inventing the predictable call.

I had never heard of this announcer or this broadcast before but this is a piece of art. His story telling abilities are some of the best I've heard

Those are great moments in the NFL. Game was good and players were great. The golden voice of Bill King we all missed ! I’m a 49ers fan but I followed the Raiders games , the A’s game and the warriors on the radio simply Bill King was the best at what he did .

The second man to touch that ball, lateraled it forward. Refs gave them that game. Even the Stabler end of it was a ripoff. He either threw an incomplete pass, or it was a forward lateral as well. At least Casper's pretense fumbling was not against the rules.

                                                  I absolutely love that part.

There's a campaign starting to get him the Curt Gowdy award --- that's the NBA equivalent of the Ford Frick -- for his work with the Warriors back in their initial heyday. I don't know if the NFL has any sort of broadcaster award but King deserves the trifecta if so.

Yeah, but the fact he's been honored is awesome. Bill King was the greatest and nobody announced with the passion and ability that he had. I miss him. When he died, I feel like a part of the A's and Raiders as teams went away, because he was such a huge part of those teams. Players had to feel awesome knowing Bill King was calling their games.

The Bay Area had another great announcer, Russ Hodges. He was the Giants version of Vin Scully. He knew everything baseball and had a great voice. Used to listen to him with my dad as he was drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer in the earlier 1960's. How I miss those sweet carefree days

He was trying to pass the ball to keep it alive but it turned out incomplete but the refs fucked it up and called it a fumble. To this day plAyers will pick up an incomplete pass and keep running until they hear the whistle blow. Stabler had no idea it would end up like that. His plan ended at the incomplete pass and it just went on from there no whistle blown so they kept going. Not stablers fault he just threw an incomplete pass. The refs made it the "on purpose fumble" I mean come on what's the difference in a pass and an on purpose fumble lol
