I work for a major airline as a Cabin Mechanic and I can tell you another reason for the blue seats is that dirt and stains are harder to see on the seats. Meaning they do not need to replace the seat covers as often. Of course heavy soiled cover are replaced instantly and many planes have extra covers stored away on board to change incase needed.

Thanks Petter - now I have a ready made excuse:

"Sorry for being late to the gate, I was drawn by the natural light near the duty free shop, which inspired me to stay in place!!"

Thanks. I hate being forced to walk all around the duty free crap, I will never buy anything in these circumstances, I feel really sorry for the staff at these shops who have to stand around all day and smile.

Carpeted areas slow you down, wheelie bags are much harder to pull, but yes it is quieter.
I do however appreciate efforts to make the cabin area a more calm area, and your PA voice will be good, and the Cabin crew are usually very good especially dealing with drunk stag party passengers.

Some airlines use their theme colour, like Emirates using nude and jet2 and japan airlines using red, aer lingus using green

Good thing I´ve never been flying around off business. I´ll take a week or two off after the days I spent on, if I´m in a country I want to see more of but usually I don´t have time for duty free shopping, spirits in the lounge are just too good to be spending company money on shit you don´t need.

The signs of "time estimate" to the gate at Helsinki Airport is far off the real time you need. Especially before the security check, which can add 1-2 hours to the 15 Minutes the sign suggest.

I cannot believe how insensitive I am. None of the things mentioned above work on me. About the only thing I hate is NOT knowing why things are happening. I don't mind carpet in airports because of the noise dampening properties. I have never bought anything mentioned in advertisements (well not quite true but not as a result of it being in an advert). And since heavy duties and sales taxes have gone there is no reason to buy anything in an airport shop (except alcohol and that is a convenience issue or magazines/books). Of course there must be some easily manipulated people out there or they wouldn't do these things. And I have no fear of dying and don't believe I would ever let anger or fear influence my behaviour. In fact it all goes over my head from arrival at the departure airport and leaving the arrival airport. Airports and flying have about as much interest as a dentist visit. To be endured stoically until over. Thank terrorists and individual country paranoia (and people who either cannot accept that they are the only person on this earth or are plain dumb or greedy airport business's) for what should be an interesting and exciting process and turned it into an endurance experience.

Cant stand weaving my way through those bright fake dutyfree shops. All huge stacks of Toblerone and whisky and stinking of cheap cosmetics. It gives me a headache. I find the nearest window and look at the planes.

The thing that gets me is how expensive "duty free" is in the UK. When I was last doing a lot of flying (53 flights in 10 months nearly drove me crackers) the duty free was actually more expensive than my local cash and carry.

I hate carpeted airports, requires so much more effort walk on.

I hate curvy airports - so much more traffic jams and takes longer to get to the gate.

I especially hate left turn lanes, a childhood trauma I had involving a giant merry-go-round makes me get flashbacks about the round-and-round pointless left turn nightmare. Besides I am cheap, I only store tend to stop by is Starbucks for my sweet caffeine fix.

I like airports that are laid out straight, colorful hard marble floor, and coffee shops near the gates, far away from the TSA... last thing I want to do is linger near the TSA passenger-groping area.

Aaaarrrrr... all these new manipulation techniques probably work on millennials, but to a sweet ol' grandma like me, I tend to feel even more aggravated, agitated, tired, angry, and frustrated.

Now I want to pet one of your fluffy carpets. ;)

I love carpets on the airport concourses! Airports already have a futuristic vibe, and the carpets make me feel like I'm on the Enterprise D. They're very welcoming!

That’s where airports make their money through shop sales, notice after through passing security and before you get to your departure gate you pass through a row of shops and restaurants they do this because they want you to spend money 💰 in their shops.

I strongly disagree with the policies being adopted by airports. Even more worrying is the fact that you talk about these policies almost in a positive way, as if they were doing something smart, intelligent, and acceptable.
Shops in airports should certainly not be placed in locations so as to entice people to buy things. These shops should be reachable by people that have a *real* need for a product, but encouraging people to do frivolous purchases is quite wrong and irresponsible.
For a start, this is clearly bad for the environment as it increases consumption, and consequently production, pollution, and natural resources depletion.
Secondly, and maybe even more importantly, this behavior greatly increases the demands for jobs. It really pains me when I walk through Stansted and I see hundreds of shopkeepers, mostly in their 20s, that are just standing there, doing these dull jobs, waiting for customers to be served. These people should be spending their time studying, engaging in creative activities, dedicating themselves to arts, science, or simply relaxing and enjoying life.
Our society is already greatly overworked, certainly we don't want to exacerbate this problem.
To be clear, this is not a problem that is specific to airports and the aviation industry. It is a problem that is... everywhere. As soon as I get out of my home, all I see is overproduction, overconsumption, and overworked people. Extraordinary, isn't it?

I am always looking down the corridor trying to figure out how far it is to the gate. If I can see it, I can estimate how much time I have. A curved corridor would make me keep walking (regardless of signs) until my gate is in sight.

                                                                  • David small

I can’t understand how I pay half price spending more fuel (extended flight time and 2 or 3 takeoffs instead one) 🤷‍♂️ Thanks!

So these people aren't traveling with young children cause the last thing I want to do is go anywhere that my kids could get lost or go bonkers past security. Just sit your tinny butts down in front of the gate and regroup.
