If it saves you from spending another $215 it's well worth it.....

I would suggest you add a small lip on the back side of the support brace to keep the angle iron from rubbing against the outside of the hydraulic cylinder when you turn to the right.

Andrew has such a iron will to get things done, he never seems to let problems get in his way!
If a machine breaks down (which would upset the rest of us), Andrew seems to take it as an opportunity to make another video!! Man I wish I could do that!!

$215 and they couldn't even primer the cylinder. That's odd.

YOU CAN NOT WELD CAST WITH MIG.

YOU HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO WELD CAST IRON.

You had the right idea by welding to the axle. Since you couldn't do that bolt a plate to the axle which extends under the cylinder. I saw two bolts over on the side of the bell housing that could anchor the plate on that side. No constant movement to your plate. done.

Is it just me, but every time you showed that repair, it looks like the tie rod is bent pretty bad. Hope your repair holds up and protects your steering cylinder.

Might need a nyloc nut for the tie rod end on your hydraulic cylinder, should not back off from all that turning.

Mig is terrible at penetration with dirty material. Sure it welded, but could be 5 times stronger. I like your efforts on the shields. I think those will do until you come up with something else. If you hit something with that bracket it will just get pushed back into the cylinder as if it weren’t there... it needs to be coupled to the brace you built so it can’t be pushed into the cylinder. Just my 2 cents

An alternative design for the keeper would be a piece of thin flat bar wrapped around the cylinder with ends bent 90 deg, holes drilled through near the ends and then use a bolt to clamp it around the cylinder.

Then to one of the ends of that, weld a washer or flat bar with the hole in the same direction as the cylinder bore (i.e., same direction as the axle runs in terms of orientation).

Then run a round bar through the washer hole and weld it to the the angle iron. As the wheels are turned left and right, the rod will keep the angle iron from straying away from the cylinder ram it is supposed to be protecting.

There might be so much travel that you can't wrap the cylinder with the flat bar. would bottom out too soon, and so instead you'd have to weld the washer on the pin holding the other end of the cylinder. In fact, that would be an even easier fab.

It could be that a downside is that the round bar would get bent as stumps and stuff impacted it. But as long as there was enough clearance in the bore of the washer and the rod, it should still allow it to work.
