Interesting point Biz makes about saying whatever he wants based on financial security. I agree with that. Have come to like Biz alot more, always enjoyed his humor but his mind is very interesting.

I have been hearing a lot of people saying that McDavid is better than Crosby ??? How can any of these people say that ? Because I would love to know how they come to that conclusion??? Because what has McDavid done in the NHL to warrant these people to say that besides win awards at the end of the season???? How many mvp's has he won after winning a Stanley cup let alone 3 Stanley cup championships 2 mvp's multiple gold medals for team Canada at the junior level and at the professional level???There is absolutely no credence to this claim that he is better than Crosby! Also I believe that Crosby's all around game is 2nd to none!!! He dont win the scoring title every year because of his all around game, imagine the numbers he could have if just concentrating on offensive numbers??? But with saying that I can guarantee you that the penguins would have never won any of the 3 championships they won in his era if he did just look to bolster his stats, that being said I believe that his actual love of winning is what separates him from the rest of the competition... as long as he is playing I don't think there is a player that is as all around as good as Sid the kid!!!!

@AIDAN HODZIC what good players does Crosby have on his line and don't even tell me Guentzel because it doesn't matter how good or bad his linemates are the truly great players makes the player's around him good , I don't see that going on with McDavid and just your answer is way off . CROSBY PLAIN AND SIMPLE IS THE BEST ALL AROUND PLAYER TO COME IN TO THE NHL SINCE " MARIO LEMIEUX " AND I am not saying McDavid isn't one of the best player's I'm just saying he is not as good as Crosby, however I would have to say he is the best player to come in to the league since Crosby , but as far as him being better than Crosby no chance in hell. It seems like everyone has seemed to forget the state of the Penguins right before the draft that landed the kid to the penguins, and once they drafted him the rest is history. Go check out the state of the pens for the 3 or 4 years before they got him , I can tell you one thing a Stanley cup wasn't even a near thought. Player's like that only come around once in 10 to 15 years sometimes even 20 , and them players tend to turn teams that were below or near below potential in to championship contenders every year they play in the league. I'm just giving you the facts.

"No wonder fans from other teams hate him".

He then says basically it's because he's so good -- ie, it's envy. That's part of it, but let's look at the other all-time greats -- eg, Orr, the real GOAT, Gretzky, Howe, Kharlamov, Lemieux, Richard. As fans of other teams, we might have "hated them" for being so good, but none of them had the baggage that Crosby has. Most fans respected them even if they "hated them". In Crosby's case, many fans who aren't Pens fans think Crosby is tainted -- ie, he dives and takes cheap shots and gets preferential treatment from officials. He's viewed differently from most of the others anyone might put on their GOAT lists for a reason. It's not all "envy". He's brought some of it on himself.

        • Von Staufenberg
          Von Staufenberg  3 weeks back

@Ed Young I don't disagree with any of that, though the point remains that this video purports to be about his "image", and part of his image, fair or not, is that he's soft or prone to injury and that he dives and embellishes, sometimes takes little cheap shots and generally gets favorable treatment from officials.

Saying that everyone who "hates him" is just motivated by envy because he's not on their team isn't fair either. Other greats like Orr, Gretzky, Howe, Richard, Lemieux, Jagr, Kharlamov don't share that same negative image, at least not to the same degree. I don't think he's soft at all, and I don't agree with the "haters" that he's the biggest diver in the NHL. Nor is he anywhere near one of the biggest cheap-shot artists in the league. Howe might have been worse in his day,.and Bobby Clarke was 10x worse. Marchand is 10x worse, though he's cleaned it up a little. Many other current players are worse, but he's earned a little of that image, IMO.

        • Ed Young
          Ed Young  3 weeks back

Dude takes the biggest beating in the league though, when you’re grinding 30 minutes a game taking a beating day in day out you’re gonna snap from time to time. When Lemieux came into the league he fought everyone for like 3 seasons. These guys are very competitive so it’s within reason that they all get smudges on their record when playing at this high of a level

        • Von Staufenberg
          Von Staufenberg  4 weeks back

@Kurt Hartz LOL. Trigger easily? I stated the obvious. If you do a search on "Crosby dives and cheap shots", 10 videos will come up. If you read comments, half the fans will refer to him as Cindy,.

Like it or not, fair or not, that is his IMAGE, and though the "cindy" labels are bullshit, he's given opposing fans more than enough reasons over the years to view him as a diver, embellisher and sometimes cheap shot artist. Brad Marchand is a very talented player who will do just about anything to win, but he's not known as the "little ball of hate" for nothing. He's probably the most hated player in the NHL outside Boston, and that includes fans who don't deny his ability or his value to the Bruins. Esa Tikkanen was a great player, unless he was on the other team, in which case he was a villain. Claude Lemieux was a very good player, but his antics were so blatant and annoying that even fans of his own team were embarrassed by them.

BTW, I didn't realize this was a Pens fansite. Otherwise I wouldn't have "trolled" in here to try to educate you. And, BTW, I have forgotten more abut hockey than a Crosby fanboy like you could ever hope to know.

He must have eliminated your team more than once , you must be a Filthadelphia fan???? He does evidently what works to help win championships and does things in games that most players mentioned can only dream of doing . You are a troll , commenting on a show about a Penguin's player , you are the true definition of T.r.o.l.l. But evidently you find him interesting enough to actually come on to a video about him to put your 2cents in on a player you obviously have no knowledge about and make a dumbass comment.....

I love how Biz can get big names like Sid and McKinnon on his pod and Sportsnet has to interview him. Its just another example of how people don't care for big media like Sportsnet, we're just stuck with them due to the stranglehold they have over NHL game coverage.

Yes, Sid won the Conn Smythe in the B2B season Championships vs Sharks & Nashville. Malkin won it in 2009 vs Red Wings. I know Talbot played awesome with 2 goals, but remember how great Kennedy played? Even Scuderi with some huge plays by the net. Flower made the save of his career, and played the last 2 games like the superstar he is..What a series!

Derek M I'm waiting until Crosby finishes his career. If Crosby can be consistent until like age 40, then he will easily be top 5. Same with Ovechkin. If Ovechkin can surpass Gretzky's or even Howe's career goal totals, then he will easily be top 5 or 6 as well. I don't think either Ovechkin or Crosby will surpass Lemieux though. Lemieux had cancer and still put up 69 goals and 160 points in 60 games during the cluctch and grab era...

@Philip Bombard nobody really said today's players are *better* we are saying this era is *harder to score*, basically today's players *could be better* because if they were put in lemieux and gretzkys era they would probably do just as well, or at least, not like 2000 points away from gretzky... todays players *should be in the conversation for goat*

Cannot deny that Crosby is a top 3 all time all around player. He isn't the best offensive or defensive player he just does everything so good doesn't really have a weakness.

                                          Everyone's entitled to an opinion.

" this current one is the most difficult to thrive in "
How so? It's the safest the league has ever been. Star players have the best opportunity to stay healthy. Gretzky and Lemieux played among monsters like Scott Stevens. There's little to no hitting in the league today. Gretzky or Lemieux wouldn't have much problem adjusting to todays game. Ovie would fit in the 80s/90s hockey, since he's a banger, but Crosby would have a tough time with his concussion history. Headshots used to be a clean hit as long as your elbow was tucked in. Eric Lindros was tougher than Sid, so there's a gauge of how long Sid's career would last back then. He would have never sat out as long as he did, and would have been finished early like Pat Lafontaine or Mike Bossy or Eric Lindros, etc, etc...

Also highly debatable that this current era is the toughest to play in, since the salary cap forces teams to constantly juggle their rosters. Taking in cheaper rookies over expensive veterans. There's nowhere near the level of chemistry teams had before the cap era. I think the 80s was the toughest for a few reasons. The major reason was there was only 21 teams. The talent was extremely concentrated, especially once the Europeans started joining the NHL. Imagine if you could get rid of the 250 worst players in the league today. Teams would be that much deeper.

I can agree on the goalie thing. Goalies are bigger today than the 80s... However the recent changes seem to have helped. There was an increase in scoring, getting closer to what it was back then. We haven't seen this many point per game players in a long time. The late 90s/2000s was the best era for goalies, it's called the goalie era for a reason. Roy, Brodeur, Hasek, Belfour, Cujo, etc..

Until someone builds a time machine, we'll never know who the true GOAT is. All we can go by is stats and Gretzky is by far the GOAT. Just look up the list of NHL records then count how many records #99 has. Crosby has a lot of work to do to surpass that.

Also goalies are alot harder to score on then the gretzky era and before that crosby is arguably the best of all time

Andrew Bout ESPN never focuses on hockey period because of the contracting rules for the NHL. That’s part of why many Americans are annoyed with 24/7 Leafs on Sportsnet. It’s the only place to get good NHL news. Personally I’m just sick of the Marner debate because there’s never anything new. We heard everything that’s come out so far already in the first couple weeks. They just spent the rest of the time bickering.

Not to mention, it fit in with what the leafs are trying to do. Marner might be the only 10 mil+ a season RFA. Say what you want but when a leaf RFA is looking at the most money then sportsnet and tsn will run with it. ESPN never focuses on the leafs. bobby ruest (I didn’t see the expand tab and missed the whole part about the awards)
Another thing to consider- who is his competition for all the awards that are subjective and just based on opinion? Yzermrman and Sakic were competing with Lemieux, Gretzky, Messier, and each other among others for the majority of their career. There’s other players now who could be competition for Crosby over the rest of his career, but Ovechkin, and Kane are probably the only two who really have been much competition most years until the new crop of guys that have only been around for a couple years.

Every good player probably wins some awards they don’t deserve, but his second Conn Smythe seemed like he won it mostly because he’s Crosby. Malkin had more points, the goalies could easily have won it, and they basically won’t even consider the defensemen. I believe it was Letang that I thought should have been considered when I was watching it.

I haven’t pulled Sakic’s up but when you’re just considering awards you included a few awards on Crosby’s that you didn’t consider for the others and a few of those awards really don’t hold much weight and/or weren’t around the whole time between these players careers- the All-Star MVP mainly doesn’t mean much at all. Yzerman skipped some All-Star games by choice because of his knee as well, but aside from being named an All-Star that game doesn’t mean much.
Yzerman also led his team to the playoffs 20 times over 22 years including 16 of the teams 25 consecutive years, making it to the conference finals 7 times. He led the team to 5 Presidents Trophies, 4 Clarence S. Campbell trophies, and 3 Stanley Cups as well that aren’t on your list. So if you’re just looking at only trophies he does come close already assuming he continues to be at the top of the league in scoring for the rest of his career, but no I wouldn’t put him above Yzerman at the very least. Also considering Yzerman’s injury and what a brutal team the Red Wings were when he joined them, it’s amazing he was able to have the success that he did.

Colorado and the Red Wings always had to play each other prior to making the Cup Finals so Sakic is probably a better comparison to Ovechkin right now, but again- his career is complete.

bobby ruest Possibly, I think if you look at the cups and not just his game + points he goes ahead of Sakic but behind Yzerman. Yzerman is only 560~ points ahead, so it wouldn’t be impossible to pass him for points- but he also played most of his career after what would be a career ending knee injury for most people and still putting up good numbers.

I don’t simply hate Crosby, I’m just not willing to call him the best player ever- especially not while he still needs to play another 8-10 seasons while putting up great point totals to end up in the top 3. As I stated before, he’s an elite player sure- it’s just not a contest when you look at the absolute best.

There are other current players who could or will end up in the same category. I also don’t automatically consider Connor McDavid a hall of famer like some people do while he’s 23 or whatever he is. McDavid is the best player I’ve ever seen prior to entering the NHL, and undoubtedly is very skilled, but he still has to prove he can keep it up for a full career
