Errr 5,000 sq ft bucket? I thought that mining machine was pretty cool, but the rest wasn't really 'amazing'. The Garret was probably a stationary steam engine used to drive a sawmill or stone crusher. The big wheels were for belt driven equipment. Might have been mobile, these engines were used in loads of things.
I find the attempt at humour by cutting bits of movies in irritating, I'd rather have more pictures of the subject than that nonsense, and many of the statements made were a little wide of the mark. Britain was totally involved in the Cold War, I well remember the feeling of imminent doom in the late seventies over nuclear attack.

Garret were the makers not the owners. And it's not part of a train. It's a portable engine to power tools, possibly huge crushing mills.

and going by the print and the few pictures of the actual find it isn't even a locomotive but an engine for providing power to machinery.

I think having US airbases, early warning stations and American nuclear warheads on the UK mainland pretty much counts as being in the cold war, or to put it simply N.A.T.O.

The Handley-Page Victor did not suffer from fatigue cracks in 1968. That was the Vickers Valiant and it was removed from service.

After some digging around I found out the Beriyev design bureau is planning to take up the concept again and have a conceptual design for a huge freight aircraft based on Bartini's research.

The bucket wheel excavator 258 does not have "5000 square foot buckets", they are just 1.5 cubic metres large, which equals to about 53 cubic feet.
And it's engines don't run on coal, they are electric. What happens is that whatever it is shovelling is transported away via mile long belt conveyors. And if it shovels coal, the coal is transported to a power plant from which the electricity for the engines comes.

The UK was very much involved DIRECTLY in the cold war.. Even as late as 2005 I was still doing submarine-hunting missions in the North Sea and scrambling aircraft when Russia was encroaching in our air/water space.

The bit abt Pearls Airport in Grenada can only be said by someone who knows nothing abt the island and has most likely never been there.
