I'm genuinely surprised about how the whole concept of not liking/linking things because of textures wasn't brought up.
I have always had a problem with textures for meat, for example. I can't really taste meat, raw meat makes me feel disgusted, & I'm picky with certain meats & how processed they are, or lack there of. I always have covered meat in condiments, because I like the flavor of the condiments more, because the flavor is stronger.
I have a deviated septum, & the incident happened when I was 5 years old. So that very well may be the exact cause of why I have issues both smelling & tasting.

If I flap my arms every day for a long time, and my children do the same thing, will my grandchildren grow wings? Evolution is not true.

You tastes also change when you get old and your taste buds die off. Now that I'm getting old I love Sriracha sauce so much more now. I can put that crap on anything.

Surprised cheddar didn't touch on the whole microbiome cultivation in your gut which can change to adapt to the food you eat and will cause you to have cravings for those foods.

Very true. I hated the taste of coffee until I started working at a coffee shop. Started drinking it with about 6 sugars and half and half. Now I drink it with 1 sugar and dark. I hate sweets now because I started liking and eating spicy food all the time which I never liked as a kid.

When cancer patients are about to get a new round of chemotherapy, they are advised _not_ to eat their favorite dish right before as a last treat before hell begins, because they may learn to hate their favorite meal.

I had never had one before and I always thought they looked good, (I love spinach) but when I had mine it was so gross. Probably poorly made as everything else from this place was poor too. When I took a bite I wanted to spit it out. I couldn't take a second bite it was making me want to gag, so I just pushed it away. Later on I took a nap and I had a nightmare centered around this damn quiche. It was that bad. lol

She can't take most brazilian sweets, including chocolate, restaurant food is always too salty, and she can't take sodas because of how much sugar is in them.
Something that tastes super bland for me will be the exact ammount of seasoning for her.
She's also semi vegetarian... meaning that rarely, she will eat some meat. But for the most part she doesn't eat because she simply doesn't like the flavor and texture. It doesn't have much to do with ethics and whatnot. She eats tons and tons of fruits and veggies, very diverse taste other than that. Wish I could be more like her... xD

And very true about the reverse of acquired taste... I don't like some seafood and don't particularly like carrots exactly because of food poisoning cases or just having to eat those when they were far past fresh. Carrots are particularly nasty when they go bad. Ugh

It's also about texture. I can't eat anything that is slimy, that pulls those strings when you mess with it. It's one among the few japanese food I can't eat - natto. I tasted it already... the flavor itself is kinda neutral, there's not much to it. But that texture.... holy crap.

And then there's the too strong smelly thing that I just can't take, I can't even stand in a room with it without gorfing. Of course, the always controversial durian. This goes down to genetics, but much like other people who absolutely can't stand it, it smells strongly of hot garbage to me. Wish I could like it, but I just can't.

As for acquired tastes... green tea and pepper were major ones for me I think. I wouldn't take those when I was a kid, no friggin way. For some reason, I also only like zero or light sodas these days. It's not about the calorie count, I just like them. Like they have a milder flavor than straight regular sodas, which goes well for me.
